He was the son of Kittel Kittlesen and Ann Leifson. Married to Rhoda Halvorson July 20, 1856 in Columbia Co., WI by Rev. H.A. Preus. He served in the Civil War with Co. H 11th Minn. Infantry. He enrolled as a Private in Rochester, MN on Aug. 22,1864 and was mustered into service at Fort Snelling on Sept.5, 1864 and mustered out on June 26, 1865 in Gallatin, TN. He later homesteaded on 80 acres of the NW Quarter of Section 4, T105, R16 3 miles North of Oslo & 1 mile West in Dodge County on Sept.1, 1869.
