John, a widower who lived at the county poor house died at Miners Union Hospital following an illness from heart trouble and complications. Born in Germany, he came to the United States in about 1874, and had lived in Colorado 43 years. Joh first worked in Silverton as a butcher, then worked in mining. Survivors of John were a son, Frank M. Knoll of Silverton, and his daughter, Mrs. C.Z. Swallow of Pueblo, both of whom were present at his funeral in the parlors of the Maguire Funeral Chapel. He was buried at Hillside, where he has a temporary marker."
