Hazel was the 7th child born to Stephen and Annie Elizabeth Harding. She was born on the Marley Ranch in Bangor, CA. Hazels mother Annie Elizabeth died in November of 1903 when Hazel was only 6 months old. After their mothers death several of the children went to live with relatives as Stephen was unable to care for small ones and work as a miner and sheep rancher at the same time. 3 of the older children stayed with Stephan and Hazel went to live with Jeff and Hattie Harding, her Great Aunt and Uncle. (Jeff was the brother to Annie Elizabeths Father, John R. Harding)By the time the children were all able to return to be with their father Hattie had become so attached to Hazel that she could not give her up.

On May 2, 1921 in Yuba County, Ca., Hazel married Floyd Lesslie Barrie, son of James Bruce and Mary O'Donnell Barrie.

They had two sons: Robert Leslie and Stanley Dale
