In May of 1843, the year he died, he deeded land to the Trustees of the Christian Church of Middle Grove. He received one dollar for one & one half acres. This land became the cemetery in which he & many of his kinsmen were buried. For years this church was the site of the family reunion of the Missouri branch of the descendants of Benjamin & Dorothy Jemima Waller Stephens.
