John Qualls moved his family from Martinsville City, Henry County, VA to Overton Co., TN where he purchased land in 1819 in the Oakhill area.
By 1837, John and his wife, Millie, had moved to Bledsoe Co., TN, the oldest county in the Sequatchie Valley of Tennessee. John had exchanged his land in Overton County for land in Bledsoe County that belonged to a Mr. Findley.
John Qualls lived only a couple of years after the move to Bledsoe County. He died in 1842, and is buried in Bledsoe County in an unmarked grave. After John's death, his widow Millie returned to Overton County. Her name appeared on the Overton County, Tennessee census, dated 27 September 1850. Millie died soon after and is probably buried beside her husband on their land in Bledsoe County or in the Archibald Qualls family cemetery at Rickman in Overton County.
