Colonial Governor. Colonial Governor of West Florida and subsequently East Florida during the Second Spanish period, serving West Florida from August 1794 to November 1796 and East Florida from June 1796 to March 1811. During that time, French Emperor Napoleon invaded Spain and the Spanish Royal Court moved into exile. Seeking to have the Court in exile set up in his Spanish colony at East Florida, he ordered the town on Amelia Island, Florida, be named Fernandina in honor of King Ferdinand VII of Spain. White was the last governor to live in Government House in St Augustine, Florida.
