Eugene T. Hash born February 22, 1921 in Fredonia, Kansas to Thomas Simon Hash and Lillian Dale Hash, passed away on February 5, 2010. He grew up on a farm in Kansas and came west to Rockport, California in 1940 to work in the logging woods where he met and married Lydia S. Stolpe on September 23, 1941 in Reno. During the war, they both worked in the shipyards in Oakland, CA. Gene had several jobs in Concord and surrounding areas before purchasing the Foster's Freeze in Petaluma, California in September 1952. In 1959 he sold the Foster's Freeze and purchased a Ranch on "I" Street in Petaluma and it became The "Red and Gold Pony Farm", eventually Hash's Saddle Shop. He retained ice cream trucks from the Foster's Freeze which he operated as "Gene's Ice Cream". Gene was active in the Masonic Lodge and the Petaluma Riding Club. They sold the ranch in 1999 and moved to Redwood Valley, CA. Gene and Lydia have two daughters, Lydia Jean Kingsley (Bob) and Ina Dale Ford (David); three grandsons: Greg Crowder (Julie), Russell Ford (fiancée Andria Lunsford), Kirk Ford (Katie); and two great grandsons Nathaniel and Zachary Crowder. In addition to Lydia and daughters, Gene is also survived by his sister Ruby in Washington and brother Walter in Kansas. He was predeceased by his father, mother, brother John "Doc", and Sister Neoma, all of Kansas. The family would like to thank the staff at Ukiah Health Care for the care he received in his final months. A graveside service was held on the February 9, 2010. Anyone wishing to make donations may send them to the Mendocino County Animal Shelter.
