Gordon "Gordy" Hale, age 70 of Kasota, died on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Rivers Edge Hospital in St. Peter surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be at Kasota Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday at the church with a prayer service at 6:30pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gordon James was born on February 28, 1943 in St. Peter to Charles and Sarah (Lee) Hale. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Betty Brandt on May 11, 1963. Gordon then served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1966 until being honorably discharged in 1969. He worked various jobs including Gordy & Betty's Café and L & H Repair in Kasota before spending 20 years working for Hiniker's.

Gordy was a 24 year member of the Kasota Fire Department serving as chief and assistant chief. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 348 in Kasota serving as Commander, the St. Peter American Legion and VFW the St. Peter Military Honor Guard and the Redmen Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, his dog Pookie, working on cars, being with friends and helping others.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, son, Joseph, mother-in-law, brother and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and other relatives [survivors names omitted].

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Audrey Palmquist and Steve Hale, niece: Debbie Wilson; nephew: John Hale; and father-in-law Wilbert Brandt.—Saint Peter Funeral Home website
