Mr. Chester Aaron McGlothlin, age 88, of Grissom Creek section of Buchanan County, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (March 19, 2014) at his home after a brief illness. Born July 27, 1925 in Drill, Virginia, he was a son of the late Larkin Davis and Rosa Belle Harris McGlothlin. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of Fletcher's Ridge Freewill Baptist Church. A United States Army veteran, he had served during World War II in France, German, and Japan. He was a retired coal miner having formerly been employed by Island Creek Coal Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Foster Ball, three sisters, Margaret Boles, Dorothy Herndon and Betty Rose, and one grandson, Shane Joey Presley.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-six plus years, Myrtle Hess McGlothlin of the home; two daughters, Eva Stinson of Lebanon and Thelma McGlothlin of Old Grissom Creek Road and her friend, John Hess; two sons, Eddie McGlothlin and wife, Reva of Rowe and Dale McGlothlin of Grissom Creek; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Daniel Barton and wife, Charlotte of Grissom Creek, Chester Darin McGlothlin of Michigan, Terry McGlothlin and wife, Christy of Wytheville, Stephanie Adams and husband, John of Lebanon, Sheena McGlothlin of West Virginia, Dennis McGlothlin and wife, Natasha of Combs Ridge, and Chelsea McGlothlin of West Virginia; four sisters, Sarah Jane Cook of Council, Betty (Harold) Marsh of Florida, Kathy (Danny) Crutchfield of Swords Creek, and Opal (David) Gildart of Swords Creek; two brothers, Arthur (Anna Pearl) McGlothlin of Swords Creek and Milford (Geneva) McGlothlin of Honaker; six great-granddaughters, five great-grandsons, and many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Troy Harris and Rev. Dennis McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow in the McGlothlin Cemetery on Stinson Ridge, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted by Child Gentry VFW Post #7360 of Grundy, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Fletcher's Ridge Freewill Baptist Church, John Hess, Kennie Ball, Marlie Ball, Jordan Ball, Elmer Ball, Garfield Hess, Gregory Austin, Mack Presley, Garrett Harris, and Danny Harris.
