U.S. Congressman. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Lieutenant in the 4th Regiment, Albany County, New York Militia. After the war, he was a justice of the peace in 1791, Stephentown town clerk, (1791, 97) and a member of the New York State Assembly, (1794-95, 97-98, 1801). He was also Brigadier General of New York Militia, in 1806, Stephentown Town Supervisor, (1806-09) and Sheriff of Rensselaer County, (1810-11). In 1813, he was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses, serving until 1817. After leaving Congress, he was a trustee of the Stephentown Presbyterian Church and was on the board of managers of the Rensselaer County Bible Society in 1815.
