Married Mahala Duncan 23 June 1838 in Scott County, Virginia. Jesse was born in Grayson County, Virginia and moved with his family in the 1830s to Scott County where he lived the rest of his life. The 1850 census has him residing with Elijah Flanary and working as a blacksmith.

He is son of Shadrach Greear and Elizabeth Wallen Greear who moved to the Clinch Valley in the 1830s from Grayson County, Virginia. Records of his relationship are in the records of the lawsuit between Noah Greear and the other heirs of Shadrach Greear, Scott County, Virginia Chancery Court.*Jesse Martin Greear

•Note:
"The family of Jessee Greear is on page 15 of the 1840 Scott County, Virginia census (had two girls under five at that time), 1850 and 1860 Scott County censuses.
Dr. Thompson supplied the name of Elijah Jesse as one child." (Lois Temple FGS 816.)

"My family line comes thru Jesse Martin Greear, his grandson Emit Walker Greear to my grandmother Tempy Louise Greear.
I had the privildege of visiting with my great aunt Maude Kern (the only living relative in her generation, she's 87) and she gave me a photo of the old Isaac Winfield Flanary homeplace in Scott County, VA.
It is my understanding that they are naming the old family cemetery near Wood after him.
He gave the home to his daughter Safronia and her husband Emit Walker Greear.
Aunt Maude lived there as a young girl."
