Marcella (Sally) Klemme 92, of Gilbert, Arizona and formerly of Kiel, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at her home with her loving daughter Faye at her side.

Marcella was born on December 24, 1921 in Kiel, daughter of George and Paula (Richter) Mayer. She attended Rockville School and graduated 8th grade, in 1935. Work on the family farm required her to put off going to High School, but in 2007, at the age of 85, Marcella got her high school diploma from James Madison High School.

On December 16, 1944 Marcella married Ralph Klemme at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel. They lived in Rockville and farmed for the next 10 years. She enjoyed their time on the farm. They moved to Kiel in 1954. Marcella was employed at Tecumseh, Steibels Apparel, Leverenz Shoe Company, Silver Moon Mink Ranch, Salvatorian Center and was a Care Giver to the elderly. In 2005 she moved to Gilbert, AZ and lived with her daughter Faye.

Marcella loved the feel of the earth's soil through her fingers. She grew lush vegetable gardens, Iris's & an assortment of other flowers in the fertile Wisconsin soil, and even in the Arizona desert with success. Gardening gave her great contentment and joy. Marcella also delighted in cutting down a peach tree with a hand saw when she was 85, and a grapefruit tree when she was 91! She thrived on working hard, even in her later years. Marcella was also a wonderful seamstress, making clothes for her and her daughters as they were growing up. She loved to crochet and entered her works in a Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Exhibit in Scottsdale in 2009. Marcella loved to bake and cook and her homemade noodles, gnocchi and cream puffs were always a treat.

She was a volunteer for the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, working at their gift shop, helped with the Salvation Army Angel Tree program and worked for PBS TV Station Telethons in Phoenix. Marcella was an active member of Heritage Lutheran Church in Gilbert, AZ. When living in Wisconsin she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel, and the Ladies Aid. In her earlier years she was a member of the Merry-Go-Round Homemakers Club.

She is survived by her daughter Faye of Gilbert, AZ and cat grandchild Kismet. Son-in-law; Charles Lopez Jr., Anaheim CA, Her sisters, Irene Lindemann, Virginia Klemme, Janice Woelfel all of Kiel, and her brother-in-law Marvin Klemme of Beloit, WI.

Marcella is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, daughters Susan (infant) and Nancy, her parents George and Paula Mayer and her brother Carl. She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-laws Donald Klemme, Robert Lindemann, Leroy Woelfel and her sister-in-law Selma Mayer, her nephew David Mayer and nieces Cindy Mayer and Linda Manz.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 27 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St. Kiel. Viewing will be from noon-2:00pm and the service will start at 2:00pm. Pastor Charles Heup will officiate.

A memorial service will be held at Heritage Lutheran Church in Gilbert, AZ at a later date.

Marcella lived her life to the fullest, always with a smile on her face and great faith in her heart for the Lord.

You are not forgotten, Marcella,

Nor will you ever be

As long as life and memory last

We will remember thee.

We miss you now, our hearts are sore

As time goes by we'll miss you more.

Your loving smile, your gentle face

No one can fill your vacant place.
