Born in Saratoga, Texas, in 1924, Gladys spent her childhood years in Kountz, Texas. She married James Frank "Pete" Rogers on July 10, 1943, in Tulare, CA. They lived most of their lives in Houston, Texas. After the death of her husband, Gladys moved to Silsbee, Texas, to be near her wonderful brothers and sisters (Zelma Bertram, Iola Jennusa, Doug Jordan, Jack Jordan and Gene Jordan). Pete and Gladys had four children. Their first born is Karen Rogers Powell (married to Jimmy Foy Powell). Their second child was "Baby Rogers", a stillborn male. Their third child is Dorlisa Rogers Simpson, first name later legally changed to Lisa (married to Christopher Martin Simpson). Their fourth child is Beverly Rogers Singleton (married to Tony Russell Singleton). There are six grandchildren: Children of Karen and Jimmy Powell: Cynthia Denise Powell Bird and Scott Rogers Powell; Children of Lisa and Chris Simpson: Christopher Matthew Simpson and Jeffrey Martin Simpson; Children of Tony and Beverly Singleton: James Wesley Singleton and Heather Nicole Singleton. There are seven great-grandchildren. Children of Cyndi and Tim Bird are: Ashley Bird Bellah, Emily Bird Noble, Nathan, Toby and Molly Bird. Son of Scott and Christie Powell is Jackson Kyle Powell. Son of Matthew and Sarah Simpson is Neil Allen Simpson. There are also two great-great grandchildren, children of Emily Bird Noble, et vir and Ashley Bird Bellah et vir. Fondly known by her family as "Me-Maw", she lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease in August, 2005. She was deeply loved and will truly be missed!
