PROVINCETOWN — Avis E. Russell, 94, of Provincetown, died Tuesday, March 18th, at Seashore Point in Provincetown. She was the wife of the late Sherman P. Russell.Born in Wellfleet, daughter of the late William and Sadie (Lombard) Burden, she was an honors graduate of Wellfleet High School. After marriage, she moved to Provincetown and raised her family. She was a homemaker and devoted to her husband and family.She leaves her son, Dwight "Fuzzy" Russell and his wife Irene of North Truro and a daughter, Sharon Gray and her husband Haywood of Colonial Heights, Virginia. Grandchildren Lee Russell of North Truro, Dawn Schnitzer and her husband Gus of Eastham, and Gary Gray of Colonial Heights, Virginia survive her. Great-grandchildren Emmalynn and Madeline Schnitzer of Eastham, a sister, Irene Eaton of Ohio, and several nieces and nephews also survive her.A graveside service will be held at St Peter the Apostle Cemetery, Jerome Smith Road, Provincetown on Monday, March 24 at 12:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.If desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Expressions of condolence for the family may be left in the guest book at gatelyfuneralservice.com.
