Charles Buford Adams, Sr., 80, died at 7:20 PM Friday, May 14, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born Dec. 28, 1918, at Cedar Hill, TN, he graduated from Clarksville High School, Clarksville, TN, and attended Purdue University. [His first marriage was to Martha Frisz on September 1, 1946.] He married Donna (Coffin) Gokey on July 4, 1987, in Lafayette, and she survives.

Mr. Adams moved to Lafayette in 1946. He was a truck driver for National Homes for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of First Christian Church, 40&8 Chateau, AMVETS, Eagles Lodge, and was an associate member of Fraternal Order of Police. He was a past commander and life member of American Legion Post 11, where he served as a district officer, a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3585, and a life member of VFW Post 1154. Mr. Adams served in Army from June 1942 until October 1945.

Surviving with his wife are four sons, Harold Adams of Lafayette, Terry Adams of Cordova, TN, Gary Adams of Ossian, IN, and Vincent Adams of Apollo, PA; two daughters, Anita Raney of Lafayette and Ursula Adams of St. Clair Shores, MI; two stepsons, Karl Pierson of Shreveport, LA, and Ted Fenstermacher; two stepdaughters, Leslie Gokey of Lafayette and Kathy Fenstermacher; two brothers, Harold Adams of Trenton, KY, and Irvin "Chester" Adams of Clarksville, IN; a sister, Margie Adams Gilmore of Eads, TN; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles B. Adams, Jr.; and two brothers, Amos Adams and Ophel "Red" Adams.
