Services for George Byron Barfield of Thomasville will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 24, at the Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Keith Smith will be officiating. Internment will be at El Bethel Baptist Church in Whigham, Ga. Barfield was born to the late Gordon and Annie Long Barfield on December 15, 1927, in Whigham, Ga. He married Nadine Croley in 1953 in Thomasville, Ga. and he married Diane Croley on February 2, 1973 in Thomasville, Ga. Barfield was the co-owner and operator of Metcalf Lumber Company until he retired in 1992. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member at Faith Baptist Church. Barfield passed away on March 21, 2014, at Camellia Gardens of Life Care. Survivors include sons, George Whitley (Lynette) of Alabama, Byron Franklin Barfield (Cathy) of Idaho, Emory Barfield (Melody) of Thomasville and Kenneth Paul Barfield (LaRie) of Thomasville; daughters Kimberly Barfield Smith (Keith) of Albany and Kathryn Barfield McKenzie (Todd) of Pelham; grandchildren Jason Whitley, Susan Staab, Georgianne Clark, Keiffer Barfield, Chris Barfield, Brandy Barnes, Kayla Barfield, Jenna Barfield, Justin Barfield, Julianna Smith, Megan Smith, Shelby Smith, Taylor McKenzie and Kelsey McKenzie; and sister Betty Shores of Bainbridge. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Barfield and Sebron Barfield; and two sisters, Margaret Bass and Wilma Cutchens.
