Ralph Edmond Angerbauer, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, high priest, neighbor and friend returned to his Savior with honor and was reunited in joy with his eternal sweetheart, Annamae, on March 19, 2014. He died of natural causes in his son's home and kept his bright intellect and sense of humor to the end. Ralph was born September 25, 1921 in Salt Lake City (Sugarhouse), Utah to George Elias Angerbauer and Marie Gering Angerbauer. He married Annamae (Ann) Billeter in the Salt Lake Temple on November 21, 1952.
Ralph graduated from South High School where he was a member of the basketball team and marching band. He played the trumpet (coronet) and was also the band's dress major. He then attended the University of Utah and performed proudly with the U's "fast-step" marching band before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. He served during WWII in the South Pacific, Philippines and Japan as an officer in charge of a postal unit. After the war, Ralph attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing (business). Ralph served an LDS mission in the Manitoba Minnesota Mission and held several leadership callings, including District President. Ralph's professional career was capped with over 20 years of service as a contracting officer at Hill Air Force Base, where he received various awards for outstanding performance and process improvement.
His most cherished roles were with his family, serving his wife, three children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members. He loved to assist Ann in planning family activities that were always major events. We will all remember "Pops" for the birthday sleep-over parties, Fourth of July vacations in Provo, and his swing, bean bags, piñatas and merry-go-round in the basement for the grandchildren. He also found great happiness organizing the neighborhood "Pops' Popsicle Parties" for all to enjoy.
He served as a Committee Chairman of the Bountiful City Handcart Days, an Area Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America, Vice President in the Elementary School PTA, and League President and Team Manager of Western Boys Baseball Association. Ralph's deep patriotism and love of country and community were manifest throughout his life.
Ralph was a faithful and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in numerous callings, including a counselor in two bishoprics, stake high council, stake missionary, early-morning seminar teacher and Bountiful Temple worker. He appreciated the heritage and sacrifices of his ancestors and had a firm testimony of God and the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ralph is survived by his children, Steven (Cynthia) Angerbauer, Sue (Lynn) Higgs, and David (Rose) Angerbauer; 22 grandchildren (including spouses); and 22 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Marion (Keith) Carroll, and other cherished sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and family members. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two older brothers, George and Lawrence, and many other beloved family members.
Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful, Utah.
