Susan Amanda O'Mary was born on May 7, 1856 in Carrollton, Carroll County Georgia to Thomas Christmas & Elizabeth Arnold O'Mary. She was born at a very troublesome time in American history with the aproach of the Civil War just a few years away. Her father Thomas Christmas O'Mary served in the Georgia 56th Reg of the Confederate Army. In the letters he wrote to home during the war he affectionately referred to Susan as "Suda" or "Sudie" who would have been around 6 or 7. The family moved to Winston County Alabama some time after the Civil War. The O'Mary's lived in and around Walker, Winston and Marion County Alabama. Susan married Richard Lafayette McGough they raised several children. Susan Amanda O'Mary McGough died on January 31, 1931 and is buried in the Fern Springs Cemetery in Eldridge, Walker County, Alabama.
