He married Frances Bransford Abbitt of Appomattox Va. on 20 August 1918. They had three children. After Frances died, John married her first cousin Edith Abbitt on 30 June 1934 in Norfolk VA. Edith's father was a brother of Frances's father. Both Edith and Frances were public school teachers
