The Naples, Fla., native was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He attended public schools in Naples and was employed by John White Logging Co. of Pineland. He was a Vietnam veteran.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Pamela Chaney; seven sons, Wilbur Chaney and Michael Chaney, both of Naples, Joe Chaney Jr. and Roy Chaney, both of Hardeeville, Tracey Chaney, Jeremy Chaney and Jonathan Chaney, all of Pineland; two daughters, Vernell Chaney and Sesta Chaney, both of Naples; four stepsons, Ernest Shiggs, David Shiggs, Alvin Shiggs and Michael Carroll, all of Pineland; four stepdaughters, Connie Carroll of Hilton Head Island, Alisha Salas, Verdell Shiggs and Leslie Shiggs, all of Pineland; three brothers, Edward Chaney of Gainesville, Fla., Sammy Chaney of Atlanta and Alex Chaney of Alabama; three sisters, Viola Jackson, Ludie Chaney and Creecy Tanks, all of Alabama; 16 grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
VISITATION: 7-8 p.m. today at Martin's Funeral Home, Estill.
FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, Pineland, burial in the church cemetery.
