CHURCH HILL- Sylvia Jean Walters, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (March 18, 2014) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Scott County, VA and worked at Kingsport Press until retirement. Sylvia was a lifetime member of Jenkins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also loved to study her family's genealogy.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Bessie and John Livesay, step sister, Ms. Minerva Kitchens, and step brother, Tivis Livesay.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Johnny Walters, sister, Stella (babe) Bowser, step sister, Stella Ward, brother and sister in laws, Ronnie and Sandra Bledsoe, Dewey and Darlene Bledsoe, Mike and Sherry Bledsoe, special niece, Mrs. April Bowser and several other nieces and nephews, close friend, Rosie Sherfey, and her beloved pet, Smokie.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Jenkins Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Jenkins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, 4121 Stanley Valley Road, Church Hill, TN with Elder Russell Davidson, Elder Gordon Presley, Elder Powell Smith, and Elder Michael Chandler officiating. Music will be provided by the Praise Duo.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday at Jenkins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 P.M.
Pallbearers will be Mathew Bledsoe, Darin Bledsoe, Josh Bowser, Brian Stivers, Alex Stivers, and Brian Stivers, Jr.
