NORMA JEAN FORD GRIFFIN, was born in Memphis, TN on November 17, 1931. She was a 1950 graduate of Manassas High School, earned her Bachelors of Arts degree from Tennessee State University in 1954 and her Master of Arts degree from Memphis State University. Norma, a career educator with over 50 years in the Memphis City Schools, began teaching at Booker T. Washington High School. She was also a Supervisor of Instructions and an Administrator with the System-Wide Achievement Team (SWAT). After retirement, she was an education consultant with the Tennessee Dept. of Education. Norma was married to her beloved Leon for 57 years. Norma was a devoted communicant of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, and an active member of several organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the River City Chapter of The Links Inc., and the Debonair Set. On October 10, 2013, Norma made her transition leaving many to cherish memories of her life including her daughter Desiree Faith Griffin Morris; son, Leon H. Griffin, Jr. (Judy); granddaughter Jami Morris Best (Brandon, Sr.); great-grandson Brandon G. Best, Jr. (lovingly known as BJ); and a niece Wanda Crenshaw and a host of other loving relatives. Preceding her in death were her loving husband Leon H. Griffin, Sr., son Donald Ray Hogan and daughter Lois Jean Griffin.
