Mr. Mitchell died at 9:44 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at his home.
He was born July 6, 1929 in Ozark County, Missouri, to Neal Mitchell and Dorothy Jackson Mitchell. On January 2, 1952, he was married at Wynne, Arkansas, to Imogene Howard.+
Mr. Mitchell was a veteran, having served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a machine maintenance operator for Sundstrand Corporation in Rockford, Illinois, retiring after twenty-eight years.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Mitchell, of the family home; two children, Gary Mitchell, Bakersfield, Missouri and Jamie Mitchell, wife, Daisha, Nixa, Missouri; one granddaughter, whom he and Imogene raised, Tammy Sue Key, Bakersfield, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Riki Lynn, Jame Jo, Tyler and Kayra Sue; one sister, Jessie Anderson, Sharon, Wisconsin; and three nieces and nephews.
His parents, two daughters, Carolyn Riverdahl and Kathleen Wooley, one brother and one sister, precede him in death.
Mr. Mitchell will lie in state from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m., Thursday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Bakersfield, and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
