Dorothy Joyner Winstead, 86, passed away at Hunter Hill Nursing and Rehab on Friday April 12, 2013.
She was born in Wilson County on May 4, 1926 to the late Richard and Minnie Joyner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darcey Turner Winstead, brothers, Earl Joyner and Harvey Lee Joyner of Elm City; two sisters, Marie Weaver and Beulah Pridgen of Rocky Mount and one grandson, George Quinn.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and also kept many children over the years. She was involved in many ways with her church and community as an active member with Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Charlotte Quinn and husband Bill of Rocky Mount; sister Ollie Mae Poland of Elm city; four sisters-in-laws, Joyce Joyner, Audrey Joyner and Edna Jones of Elm City and Rachel Potts of Snow Hill, brother-in-law Henry Joyner of Elm City, one granddaughter, Denise Joyner of Rocky Mount, two grandsons, Dax Joyner and wife Erin of Nashville and Bryan Quinn of Nashville, two great-grandsons, Jack Quinn and Darcey Joyner. Honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Janet and Gary Lee (Peyton and Reagan), Scott Howell (Laura); Jessica and Sid Curtis (Timothy and Layla); Nancy Howell and Donna Adair and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 5 PM on Sunday April 14, 2013 at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC with the Rev. Justin Nale, officiating. The family will receive friends after the service till 7 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wilson, NC on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11 AM.
