George Eli Cotton, 57, of Houston Texas, made his peaceful transition to his eternal heavenly home March 10th, 2014, winning a five-year fight from complications of a stroke. He was born in Orange, Texas October 1st 1956 to the late Elijah Cotton Sr. and Josephine Anderson. He attended Lutcher Stark High School and moved to Houston for the remainder of his schooling. George returned to Orange and began working at Crown Zellerbach as a Machine Operator (later renamed James River). Soon thereafter, in 1978, he met and married his beautiful wife Eva (Ceaser) Cotton. They were blessed with three children, Christopher (aka Chris), his only daughter Jennifer (aka Jen) and youngest son Olajide` (aka OJ) Cotton. His children were the diamonds in his crown! If he could get your ears for a few minutes he would tell you about his children. He was a man who esteemed his family very highly; from the one he created, to the one he was born into. He called often to talk with each brother and sister every weekend, staying deeply involved in each of their lives. George relocated his family to Houston in 1993 where they soon became members of New Light Christian Center Church, North location. He insisted that they become involved in serving in the ministry, each in their areas of interest, and George chose to serve as an Usher. He assisted his wife Eva as small group leader for a short time before his health became challenged. George was always fun loving and jolly, and he loved teasing and poking fun at others. He didn't like seeing anyone sad and could usually find a way to make you smile or laugh and forget about why you were sad in the first place, at least for a while. He was also known for his love of food. When he stepped into your home, his first words were "what cha' got in the pots?" One of his proudest days was when his youngest son OJ received his culinary degree to become a Chef! George was blessed with a large family whom he adored. He shared his love equally with his sisters; Loranza Anderson, JoAnn Dow (Reginald), Belinda Nunn, Rose Thomas, Margaret Warnell (Michael), Marilyn Anderson, Veronica Anderson, brothers Wade Anderson and Gregory Anderson from his mother's side. Sisters; Claudine Mouton (Larry), Corine Cotton-Wills, Karen Holman (Randy), brothers; Winston Cotton and Elijah Cotton Jr. on his father's side. George leaves to forever cherish his memory, his devoted & loving wife Eva, children; Chris (Tessa) of San Jose California, Jennifer, Olajide`, his only grandchild Christian Jameson Cotton and numerous in laws, cousins, friends, aunts, uncles and other relatives. George was preceded in death by his father Elijah Cotton Sr., stepmother Juanita Cotton and sister, Rhonda Roberson. Brothers Ronnie & Thaddeus Anderson and stepfather Lovely Anderson. The Celebration of his Life will be held at New Light Christian Center Church, 1535 Greensmark Drive Houston, TX 77067. Viewing from 10-11:00AM, Service at 11:00. Internment immediately following, in Hollywood Cemetery, Simmons Dr. Orange TX. Repast: Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 613 N. 3rd St. Orange, TX. "It's not how you start, it's how you finish & George finished as a fighter who won!"
