Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Rhodes, 76, Hawarden resident the last 45 years who died Sunday at the hospital following surgery, were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the First Methodist church, Dr. G.S. Bruland officiating. Burial was at Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home.
Casket bearers were Lee Trudeau, Verne Mallette, Dick Hulleman, Jerry Wood, Charles Cain and Earl Slife. Mrs. Peter Schemmer, soloist, was accompanied by Mrs. Ivoran Noe.
Mrs. Rhodes was born January 20, 1886, in Harrison county, Iowa. She moved with her parents to Modale and later to Sloan.
On November 16, 1904 she married Ray Rhodes at Onawa and they came to Hawarden in 1918. Mr. Rhodes, a former city council member, died in 1959 after which she made her home with her daughters.
She was a member of the Methodist church and W.S.C.S. women's organization.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Charles Wagner and Mrs. William Milihoff, both of Hawarden, and Mrs. Howard Witt of Chicago; two sons, Leo R. Rhodes of Des Moines and Merton Rhodes of Dubuque; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Hodgebone of Sergeant Bluff; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Lucy Hodgebone of Sergeant Bluff, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Witt of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rhodes and Keith of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Merton Rhodes and children of Dubuque, Mrs. Nellie Rhodes and daughter, Fern, of Rock Falls, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Gaylor Rhodes and daughter of Pittsfield, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Adam Pratt and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mollhoff of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thurston of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Eaton of George, Iowa.
