Sarah Edith Baker was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, Sept. 13, 1881, and departed this life at the home of her mother Mrs. Jane Gates, 425 North Sheridan avenue, Oct. 15, 1912, aged 31 years, one month and two days, after a lingering illness of one year of consumption. She was united in marriage to Kelvin [sic] H. Baker March 28, 1900. To this union three children were born. They are Bertha and Pearl. Bert, the youngest child died at the age of three months. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two children, her mother Mrs. Jane Gates, three brothers and three sisters as follows: Mrs. Ollie Rhoades, Charlie Gates, Roy Gates, Clyde Gates, Elsie and Hallie Gates, all of Ottumwa. She was a faithful wife and mother, a loving affectionate daughter and sister, and loved by all who knew her. During her long suffering she never complained. She was a Christian and has gone to rest. Her casket was laden with beautiful flowers that showed the esteem in which she was held. She will be sadly missed by all her relatives and a host of friends. The funeral services were held in the South Ottumwa Baptist church, conducted by the pastor. Rev. Jonathan Lee and Sidney Catherman of the Open Door Rescue Mission. Interment in the Shaul cemetery.
