Hiram was the youngest of the nine known children of John B. Wright, & Catherine (nee Marquart) Wright.

Hiram apparently moved to Michigan with three of his brothers after 1863 (he registered for the draft in 1863 in Shalersville).

He enlisted Oct 7 1864 at Detroit as a Private in Co D of the 5th Michigan Calvary. He was wounded at Cedar Creek, Virginia, loosing his left foot. It is not clear why he apparently remained with the 5th or the 1st Michigan Calvary. He apparently was mustered out 25 Mar 1866 at Fort Bridger, Utah.

He married Edna V Chalker on Dec 24 1868 in Portage County, Ohio. They had one daughter. They divorced as Edna married James Fleming in 1879

He was listed as single in the 1870 census, living in Ravenna.

He married Lois L Byer abt 1872. It is not clear if the 1st child listed for them (Bertha Wilcox) was hers from a previous marriage. In 1900, Lois listed 3 of 6 living children.

He was a farmer all his life, retiring sometime after 1900.
