--Son of Neal H. Hodges, Sr. and wife Sarah Eason. He grew up in Raleigh and graduated from Needham Broughton High School in 1940 and then entered NC State University.
--World War II Veteran; U.S. Army. He entered the army in 1942 in the Signal Corps and later attended Officer Candidate School in NJ, becoming a 2nd Lt. in 1944. He served in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a 1st Lt. in 1946 when he was discharged from active duty and then served in the Officer Reserve Corps.
--He completed his degree from NC State in 1948. receiving his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a charter member of Sigma Chi fraternity and a member of Eta Kappa Nu, an honorary electrical engineering association.
--Occupation: He had a long career with Southern Bell in Raleigh and later in Charlotte, retiring in 1983 as District Manager of Program Planning, with 35 years service.
--He married Minnie Howard in 1953. They had 3 children: Mark, Cynthia, and Cassandra. 3 grandchildren.
--active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He served as Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Session, and Trustee.
