Services for William Adell Moncrief, 90, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenneth Young and Bro. Paul Mettlen officiating. Interment will follow in Sims/Rocky Hill Cemetery. Mr. Moncrief was born May 30, 1926 in Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Lila (Nerren) and Johney Moncrief. He passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 in a local nursing facility. Mr. Moncrief was a loving husband of 69 years and was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He attended Business College and had been a millwright at Southland Champion Paper Mill, where he retired after many years of service. Mr. Moncrief proudly served his country in the United States Army and the Merchant Marines, being drafted two separate times. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors include his wife, Maurine Moncrief; daughters and sons-in-law, Dell and Jerry Sawyer of Lufkin and Carol "Boo" and Rodney "Mugs" Steed of Kennard; grandchildren, Jason Sawyer, Cody Duncan, Shonna Wigley and Brandi Rogers; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and other family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Rosie and Billy Jones; father-in-law and mother-in-law, H. H. and Naomi Greenville; and son-in-law, Lynn Duncan. Pallbearers will be Cody Duncan, Jason Sawyer, Justin Wigley, Matthew Wigley, Jack Null and Bruce James. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at Gipson Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.gipsonfuneralhome.com.
