Leona Margaret Combs 92, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, KS.

Leona was born Jan. 24, 1920 in Custer, OK, the daughter of Rosco and Francis (Flosum) Pafford. She had been a longtime Turpin, OK resident moving to Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal just over three years ago.

Leona attended public schools in Clinton, OK and graduated from Hardesty High School Hardesty, OK in 1938 and attended Panhandle State receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Education.

Leona was a member of the Bethel Church of God, Turpin Senior Citizen Center and the Turpin Senior Citizen Center Quilting Group. She was an artist and enjoyed using oil paints.

Leona worked as a teacher at the Eureka School and later was a clerk for the Rock Island Railroad.

On Sept 2, 1945, she married Clyde George Combs. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include:

2 Sons Neal Combs and wife Peggiann Turpin, OK

Clarence Combs and wife JoAnn Turpin, OK

23 Grandchildren 26 Great Grandchildren 8 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, one son Melvin Jay Combs, one daughter Carol "Kay" Deweese, two brothers Marion and Clinton Pafford.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Wheatridge Park Care Center with Rev. Stan Lehnert presiding. A private family burial was held at Turpin Independence Cemetery.
