Leonard Augustus (Gus) DeLissa was born December 18, 1933 in Liberal MO to William Franklin DeLissa and Mary Agnes (Aidnik) DeLissa. He was preceeded in death by his parents and his only sister, Marie Goodspeed, and his only brother, Billy Joe DeLissa.
Gus married Leona Maxine Bishop at Leoti KS on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1954. They were married 56 years. Gus lived and worked in Liberal MO until he was 16 years old. He worked at Collingwood Elevator in Selkirk KS until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy. At his graduation ceremony from Navy Boot Camp, he was awarded the "Honor Man" medal. Upon being honorably discharged from the navy, Gus worked for a time in Johnson KS and then in Lakin KS where he operated the Texaco Service station and bulk plant. In 1978, he moved to Meade KS where he purchased the Ford Dealership. Gus died on September 30, 2010. His survivors are his wife, Maxine; a daughter, Janna DeLissa of Leoti; a son, Lance DeLissa and wife Sheryl, and three grandsons, Leighton, Levi and Lelan, all of Meade.
Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church, 510 E. Rainbelt, Meade, on October 9, 2010 at 2 p.m.
The family welcomes memorials in care of Fidler- Orme-Bachman Mortuary to the Wichita County Historical Museum for the Ames house or the Meade County Historical Society.
