Son of Gibson & Kate Twist Alberty

James grew up and attended school in the Locust Grove and Salina areas. On June 20, 1942 he married Overtia Johnson in Claremore. Later that year he was drafted into the United States Army and served four years during World War II as a military policeman at Fort Benning , Georgia and Newport News , Virginia . Following his service in the military he lived and worked in Arkansas and Texas and settled back to the Salina area in the early 1950's. For the next 30 plus years he worked in the boilermaker trade, building storage tanks at refineries up and down the Mississippi River . James was proud of the fact that in the late 1930's he had helped to construct the Pensacola Dam. He was a proud retiree of the Boilermakers Union, retiring in the 1980's.

For many years he was active member of the Salina American Legion Post and was a member of the Salina First Baptist Church since the early 1950's. After his retirement he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and doing metal work. What he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
