John and Elizabeth settled on a farm on the Pee Dee River.
Later they moved to the Yadkin River in Wilkes County, North Carolina and took up a 250 acre farm near the mouth of Kings Creek. John built a log house on a hill Overlooking tpe Yadkin River valley. Later, about 1838, William Hagler, son of John, built a hand-made brick house, with four large rooms, a small basement and a front and back porch. The log house was used as a kitchen for the new house for many years. This house was known as "Beach Hill" and was last owned by George Hill and Edith Ferguson Carter. Edith is the great, great, great granddaughter of John and Elizabeth Hagler. The house has been restored by Monty and Margaret Carter Minton. They are living in the house at this writing. (1983)

William's initials are on the East chimney of the brick house.
William fought in the War of 1812.

Thirteen children were born to William and Elizabeth: Philadelphia ("Adelphia"), Skelton Wilson, Mary E.("Polly")William Walton, John, Albert (or Elbert E.), Greenville, Lindsay, Wiley, Thomas, Lorenzo Dow, Sarah and Waitsel.
