Michigan Territorial Governor. He served as an officer in the United States Army during the War of 1812. He was elected as Governor of the Michigan Territory, serving from 1831 until his death in 1834. He was the younger brother of Pennsylvania Governor David Rittenhouse Porter, and the uncle of Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General Horace Porter.
