Clifton E. Hayes, age 65, resident of Shelby died Sunday March 16, 2014 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born August 24, 1948 in Huntington, W. VA to John and Ina J. (Wagner) Hayes he was raised in the Sylvania, Ohio, moving to Willard in 1976. He had a been Shelby resident since 1991. A 1966 graduate of Sylvania High School, he was employed with Rentner Lumber in Sylvania and was employed with CSX Railroad as a track inspector retiring in 2004. Clifton was a veteran honorably serving with the U.S. Navy.

He attended the Shelby Church of God and CitiChurch in Bellville.

Spending time with his family was of up most importance to Clifton and he looked forward to his almost daily visits with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of forty three years, Debra (Seibert) Hayes; his son Jason M. (Schelly) Hayes of Willard; his daughter Stacy (Jeff) Leadbetter of Lexington; three grandchildren Brennan, Kaleigh and Alexis Leadbetter; two sisters Sandra (Phil) Perry of Perrysburg and Hazel (Jim) Frye of Lambertville, Michigan; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Verda Hayes, two brothers, Lowell Sizemore and Homer Schinn, four sisters, Juanita Merkle, Leonora Caddell, Anna Holtz and Peggy Miller.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday March 20, 2014 from the Church of God, St., Rt. 61 N. Shelby. Pastor Micah Pelkey of the CitiChurch will officiate with interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Willard. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby, Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00PM. Memorial expression may be made in care of the family.
