Mrs. Ada Owen Cowan, for many years prominent in Republican and women's activities in San Bernardino, died suddenly Tuesday morning after a short hospitalization.

Mrs. Cowan, was stricken Monday night while attending a family dinner at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Leland C. Jacobson in San Bernardino.

She was a native of Middlebury, NY and resided in San Bernardino for 45 years. She was educated as a teacher in Middlebury Academy and Geneseo State Normal College.

After traveling abroad for some time, she and her mother moved to Southern California where she married Benjamin Cowan. He died in 1943.

She was much interested in church, civic and social affairs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She was a past president of the Women's Club, High School PTA, City and County Republican Women's Clubs and past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an officer of the Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America.

Besides Mrs. Jacobson, her daughter, Mrs. Cowan is survived by one son, Ben Cowan of Palm Desert; one brother, Ernest Owen of Yucca Valley; one sister, Mrs. E.A. Brininstool of Los Angeles, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Boyce Van Osdel and the Rev. Richard M. Mussen officiating. Interment will follow in Montecito Memorial Park.
