CLERMONT, FLA. >> John F. Butler, 94, passed away in Clermont, Fla. on Jan. 18, 2014. He was born and raised in Rome, N.Y. the son of the late Charles and Marjorie Butler. He was married to the late Betty "Pat" Coulter in 1944. He then married Shirley Joan Leslie in 1967. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1938. He spent 4 1/2 years in the Marines in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He graduated from Utica College with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked for many years at Smith Lee, Inc. as comptroller and assistant treasurer. He later worked for Univac as comptroller and took early retirement. He then worked for the Adirondack League Club as their public accountant and ran the Harris Motel and Tourist Home in Old Forge. He retired to Clermont in 1985 where he is survived by his wife, Shirley Joan Butler. He is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Taun Carpenter-Webb and Michael Webb (Taberg, N.Y.) and two sons, Scott Butler (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Mark Butler (Hyde Park, Vt.), eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
