Arthur Henson Dunlap

Arthur Henson Dunlap, 87, of Crab Orchard, passed away, Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born July 19, 1924 at Train, W.Va., he was the son of the late Percy E. and Amy Pricilla Pauley Dunlap.

Henson was a retired railway mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.

He was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church and Friendship Sunday school class. He was member of American Baptist Men who assisted with the clean-up following the tragedy of 9-11 and the Mullens flood. He was a member and charter president of the Crab Orchard-MacArthur Lions Club.

Henson was an outdoorsman and loved watching WVU sports. He volunteered at Beckley Health Right and helped the American Red Cross by donating blood when he could. Henson was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II serving on the USS Intrepid.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Howell, Ohley Ray, Charles, Carlos and Lowell Dunlap and sisters, Mabel Priestly McCormick, Eldora Dunlap and Barbarine Dunlap Walker.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years., Janice Hope Horton Dunlap; son, Eric Dunlap and wife Amy of Haw River, N.C.; daughter, Dr. Stephanie Dunlap of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Jackie Lee Dunlap and wife Joanne of Dunbar, and Carl Dunlap and wife Patty of St. Albans, numerous nieces and nephews and special caregivers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, February 17, at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Sisson, Rev. Ken Souder and Pastor John Lares officiating.

Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Friends may visit with the family Thursday, February 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Calfee Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Randy Moore, Pete Graham, Mark Riffe, Gene Deck, Richard Shumate, Aaron Dunlap, Ralph Prince and Jeffrey Horton.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Crab Orchard Baptist Church Choir, P.O. Box 446, Crab Orchard, WV 25827, Hospice of Southern WV, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802 or the American Red Cross, PO Box 4002018, Des Moines, IA 50340-2018.
