US Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1812, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1819 and opened a law practice in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1891. He was the first Judge of Probate in New Haven, a Connecticut State Senator and a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives. In 1840, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William L. Storrs, reelected to the Twenty-seventh Congress, serving until 1843. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives and practiced law until his death at age 76.
