Elsie [Eleonora] Naasz was born Dec. 21, 1912, in Java, S.D., the daughter of John and Christen (Helm) Naasz. She attended school in Java until she moved to Napoleon, N.D. She worked at the Sibley Hotel, Dawson, N.D., at age 16.
She married Richard Schauer on Nov. 22, 1935. They lived on a farm south of Dawson. They moved to Dawson in 1949, where she worked as a rural mail carrier for many years. He died in 1979.
She married Henry Rau on Sept. 2, 1982. He died in 2001. She moved to Golden Manor Nursing Home in September 2005. She enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Irvin) Wallner, Tappen, N.D.; a daughter-in-law, Beatrice (Pfaff) Schauer; a brother, Ervin Naasz; a sister, Lucinda (Allen) Propp, Worden, Mont.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Al Schauer; a granddaughter, Paulette Schauer; her parents; two sisters; and a brother.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Lutheran Church, Dawson, with the Rev. Paul Tjostem officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday, Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele.
Visitation: noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel and one hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Dawson Cemetery, Dawson.
