"Charles J. Orton was born in Franklin, Delaware County, New York, October 22, 1856. The family went in 1866 to Yellow Springs, Ohio, where his father was President of Antioch College; in 1873 they removed to Columbus; until 1881 his father was President of the State University; is now Professor of Geology. In 1877 Mr. Orton came to Minnesota and in April of the next year located on his present farm; is town clerk (of Augusta). Married Florence Bell in January 1881; one child: George E."
