His father's parents were Flanders and Jemima (nee' Boone) Callaway - Jemima was the daughter of Daniel and Rebecca (Bryan) Boone. Jemima was captured along with Elizabeth and Frances, daughters of Colonel Richard Callaway, on July 14, 1776, by an Indian raiding party as they were floating in a canoe on the Kentucky River near Boonesborough, Kentucky. Flanders was one of the rescuing party.
William is brother to Thomas Howell Callaway, Theresa Etaline (Callaway) Snyder, John Callaway Castlio, Fortunatus Boone Castlio, Jasper Newton Castlio, Othaniel Caleb Castlio, Hiram Beverly Castlio, Susan Callaway and Zerelda Emeline Castlio
