Son of John Gordon Bewley Fletcher and Elsie Ellen Fletcher, of Wadhurst; He marriedoJoyce Fletcher(nee Corrie) at Lambeth in July 1940.

John Gordon Bewley Fletcher, from Wadhurst, was born in January 1920 in Greenwich.

He enlisted in the RAFVR in November 1938 as an Aircrafthand with 604 Squadron. He later remustered as an Air Gunner and was called to full-time service on 24th August 1939.

He was serving with 604 on Blenheims at Northolt at the start of the Battle.

On 25th August 1940 he was aboard Blenheim L6782 when it crashed, cause unknown, near Witheridge, Exeter while on an operational sortie. Sgt Fletcher and the pilot Sergeant C Haigh . were killed with LAC AL Austin
dying from injuries the following day.
