John William Keltner
John William Keltner was born near Fairfield, March 15, 1863 and died October 2, 1920 at the Jefferson county hospital as a result of injuries received Friday evening.
Mr. Keltner was crossing the road just west of the B. F. Black home wen he was struck by an auto, driven by Harvey Whitmore of Batavia. Mr. Keltner had stepped aside to permit one auto to pass and did not notice the Whitmore car approaching. Both cars were being driven at a high rate of speed and as the action of Mr. Keltner was so unexpected the accident seemed unavoidable.
Both of Mr. Keltner's limbs were broken and one was badly mangled. He was rushed to the hospital, where he passed away Saturday morning.
Deceased was fifty-seven years of age. He is survived by his aged mother and five brothers, David and Delmar of Ottumwa, Clarence of Los Angeles, Calif., and Frank and Chas. of Fairfield.
The sympathy of the whole community goes out to the aged mother, who has borne so much sorrow in the past ten years and who will feel the loss of her son so keenly.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at four o'clock from the Christian church in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
