Actress. Best remembered as 'Beth' in the 1933 version of "Little Women," opposite Katharine Hepburn, Frances Dee, and Joan Bennett. Jean Parker was born Lois Mae Green to Louis Green, a well-known gunsmith and hunter, and Melvina Burch. She was discovered by Ida Koverman, Louis B. Mayer's personal assistant when she posed for a poster contest. Her first part in a film was in "Divorce in the Family," in 1932. Her first major role came a year later in "Rasputin and the Empress." This was also the year she did "Little Women." Her other major works include "Rolling Home," in 1948, "The Gunfighter," in 1950, and "Black Tuesday," in 1954. Her last film role came in 1966 in "Apache Uprising." Jean Parker was married four times, her last husband was actor Robert Lowrey whom she married in 1951. The couple had one son Robert. They divorced in 1957. She had been in poor health for several years, and had suffered several strokes. She was 90.
