JOHANNES LINEBARGER was born in Pennsylvania sometime prior to 1757. His parents were JOHANNES and ISABELLA whose last name was written as "LEUENBERGER" and/or "LEYENBERGER". His paternal grandfather, HANS LEUENBERGER is thought to have been born in about 1685 in Wittlesheim, Alsace, "a canton of Bern", Switzerland and died in about August 1735 "at sea" while enroute to Philadelphia in the then British "American" Colony of Pennsylvania.

JOHANNES LINEBARGER was married to ELIZABETH HEFFELFINGER on 5 May 1775 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and they became the parents of eight known children including JOHN LINEBARGER who was born in about 1774. According to most records their children were born in Lincoln County, North Carolina. After his wife ELIZABETH died circa 1817 in Lincoln County, North Carolina he is thought to have remarried a DORCAS SPRAGUE in Lincoln County, North Carolina on 30 September 1817.

JOHANNES LINEBARGER served as a Private in the Ninth Pennsylvania Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He died in 1824 in Beatty's Ford located in the vicinity of Denver, Lincoln County, North Carolina.
