Rachel retired from Bell South after over 35 years of service. She was an active member of Word of Life Family Church where she was in a Bible study group. She was active for over 10 years with Habitat for Humanity and was a volunteer with Hospice of Alamance-Caswell as a sitter. Rachel received her undergraduate degree from Milligan College in Johnson City, TN and later her masters degree from Elon College. She was a loving and devoted Christian mother and grandmother. Rachel was a friend to everyone she met sharing the love of Jesus and witnessing to His power in and through her own life.
She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Ricketson and her husband, LA of Atlanta, Georgia and her son, Sammy Pickard, Jr. and his wife, Tina Kincaid of Gibsonville; granddaughters, Mekinnah, Sutton and Kodi Ricketson all of Atlanta, Georiga; sister, Shirley Chatman and her husband, John of Burlington and a brother, Luther Murray, Jr. of Graham.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Ronald Murray.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Word of Life Family Church by Rev. Rich Fennelle, Rev. Kevin Bullard and Pastor Howard Thompson and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
