Dr. James A. Brooks, 62, of Bourbonnais, died.

Burial will be at Kankakee Memorial Gardens.

Dr. Brooks was born Oct. 27, 1935 in Litchfield, Ill., the son of John and Lucille Brooks.

He was married on Aug. 6, 1960 to the former Idella Meyer, who survives.

Survivors also include one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ralph Morrison of Chebanse; two sons and daughters-in-law, James A. Jr. and Mindy Brooks of Washington, D.C., Eric and Jennie Brooks of San Diego, Calif.; and a close friend, Donna Earnhart. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, James A. Brooks III, Samuel S. Brooks, James (Alex), Jessica, Michael, Evan, Emily Morrison and Elizabeth (Ella) Brooks, an aunt, Margaret Lee Hefley and one cousin, Darla Coleman.

His parents are deceased.

Dr. Brooks, a licensed clinical psychologist, had practiced in this area for over 30 years. He took a special interest in helping in the areas of drug and alcohol dependency and child abuse. He often was a featured speaker and counselor on these subjects.

Dr. Brooks earned a bachelor of science degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, a master of science in Education at Illinois State University and earned his doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) at United States University of America.
