Mrs. Charlsie M. Martin, age 99 years, of Jefferson City, MO, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at the Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center. Mrs. Martin was born January 30, 1904, in Miller County, MO, the daughter of Charles and Eveline Shackelford Snelling, both deceased. She was married on February 11, 1920, in Miller County, MO, to Elmer W. Martin, who preceded her in death on June 14, 1970.
A life-long resident of the Central Missouri area, Mrs. Martin attended Iberia Academy School, Iberia, MO. A homemaker, she had been employed at the International Shoe Factory for over twenty years. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Christian Church in Miller County, MO.
Family and friends were looking forward to her 100th birthday celebration in fourteen days.
Survivors include one son: Kenneth R. Martin and his wife Mary of Warrensburg, MO; two daughters: Ann McDowell and her husband Harold of Jefferson City, MO, and Brenda Keys and her husband Rick of Jefferson City, MO; one sister: Faye Wolf of Collinsville, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son: James C. Martin; two daughters: Pauline Bemboom and Imogene Bemboom, and 2 great grandchildren: Samuel T. Martin and Taylor G. McDowell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2004, in the Freeman Chapel with Reverend David Avery officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to The Taylor G. McDowell Memorial Scholarship Fund.
